KABWE, ZAMBIA — The University of Kabwe (UniKa) brought its message of accessible higher education to the heart of the Kabwe community on Saturday, June 27, 2026, when it participated in the Jacaranda Trust School Annual Inter-House Sports Day at Star Sports Club on McCartney Avenue — engaging hundreds of parents, students and community members in a setting that was anything but formal.
The event, organised by the Jacaranda Trust School Parents and Teachers Committee (PTC) and chaired by PTC Chairman Mr Chisanga Paul Mwenya, attracted over 500 attendees and doubled as a vibrant community gathering, with members of the corporate and institutional community invited to exhibit and engage alongside the school’s inter-house sporting competitions.
UniKa’s branded stall drew sustained interest throughout the day, with members of the public stopping to enquire about the university’s undergraduate programmes, scholarship offerings, application process and the differences between Full-Time and Open and Distance Learning (ODL) study modes. The university’s participation gave its marketing and admissions team direct access to a key audience — parents with children approaching university age — in an environment that encouraged open and relaxed conversation.
The University of Kabwe currently offers undergraduate degree programmes across five schools: the School of Entrepreneurship, Business and Leadership; the School of Science, Built Environment, Engineering and Technology; the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; and the School of Education, which is affiliated with the University of Zambia. Scholarships of up to 100% tuition are available for qualifying students.
The Sports Day engagement forms part of a broader community outreach strategy by UniKa, which has been intensifying its on-the-ground marketing efforts ahead of its June 2026 intake. The university has made deliberate efforts to meet prospective students and their families in community spaces — recognising that many young Zambians and their parents make educational decisions based on personal engagement rather than digital advertising alone.
UniKa’s participation in the Jacaranda Trust School Sports Day was well received, with the university’s team reporting positive interactions and a notable interest in the institution’s scholarship and ODL programmes among parents from the wider Kabwe area.
