KABWE, ZAMBIA — The University of Kabwe (UniKa) has formalised a strategic partnership with Mayanara Foods and Skills Limited through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step in the institution’s drive to connect formal higher education with practical skills training and community development.
The MoU was signed at the University of Kabwe Campus in Kabwe and brings together two institutions with a shared commitment to equipping Zambians with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to participate meaningfully in the country’s economy.
Mayanara Foods and Skills Limited, led by Head Trainer and Director Ms Margaret Chiwama, specialises in practical skills development and food-related training programmes aimed at grassroots communities. The partnership with UniKa creates a framework for the two institutions to collaborate on community education initiatives, joint training programmes, and outreach activities targeting students and communities across the Kabwe District and beyond.
Following the MoU signing, representatives of both institutions held a working meeting to establish the immediate priorities of the partnership. Among the key areas discussed were joint community mobilisation strategies, the development of branded marketing materials including T-shirts and introductory letters, the allocation of operational office space for Mayanara at the UniKa Campus, and the preparation of a social media marketing plan to support the partnership’s visibility.
Both parties also agreed to review and finalise a revised copy of the MoU to incorporate feedback from each institution, with a view to strengthening the terms of the agreement and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
Speaking on the partnership, a UniKa representative said the agreement reflects the university’s broader mission to produce graduates and community members who are not only academically capable but practically prepared for the real world. “We believe that education must be practical, ethical and impactful. This partnership with Mayanara aligns perfectly with that vision,” the representative said.
The University of Kabwe is a privately registered higher learning institution accredited by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) of Zambia, offering undergraduate programmes across five schools including Business and Leadership, Science Engineering and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and Education. Programmes are available in both Full-Time and Open and Distance Learning (ODL) modes, with scholarships of up to 100% tuition available for qualifying students.
